Greece - 3rd Primary School of Egaleo "Nikolaos Politis"

The 3rd Primary School of Egaleo is an urban public primary school with 200 pupils and 29 teachers. The school is situated in Egaleo, a densely populated area in the west region of Athens, 5km from the centre of the capital and very well served by metro and bus. The school's intake consists of children coming mostly from low socio-economic backgrounds. Immigrant children are about 18% of the school population. Most of them are born in Greece and speak Greek as well as native speakers do. Children with SEN are about 9% and they get extra help by a specialist teacher in an inclusion class where they attend on a part time basis. Students attend 6 teaching hours per day and the programme is enriched with subjects such as ICT, theatre education and arts, taught by specialist teachers.

Moreover, English is taught from the first class (age of 6). Children also have an option to stay at school after the end of the morning programme from 13.15 till 16.00. Parents' association supports the school and offers extra activities such as traditional dances after the end of the school programme. The educational plan of the school aims to develop a learning community, to promote intercultural awareness and the sense of belonging among its pupils and also to provide children with knowledge and skills so that they develop their personality and their self identity in order to fulfil their future role as active citizens of Greece and Europe. Relevant educational, environmental, citizenship projects and workshops are carried out through the school year in order to meet these challenges as well as a lot of outdoor activities (exploring the neighbourhood and the city, visiting monuments and museums, attending theatrical performances etc.) ERASMUS+ project "Junior Business Minds Selling Online Eco-Traditional Games" was the second European project for the school after a COMENIUS Multilateral school partnerships program, titled "CITY TWINNERS".

Through the ERASMUS project the school is looking forward to building a learning network with partner schools giving our pupils and staff the opportunity to widen their perspectives, to improve their communication, English language and ICT skills and to gain the experience of contacting their peers and colleagues in different contexts than their own.
